Imagine someone stopping you in the street and asking you: “What is your goal?”
How would you respond? Have you set any goals yet? Have you written them down?
Growing or developing ourselves and contributing to society are all part of our spiritual needs. And acting on these needs is the surest way to find fulfilment and will help us achieve success in both our business and personal lives.
There are three main categories or “buckets” we can divide our lives into: experiences, growth, and contribution. Below are the most important questions we can ask ourselves to help us define our goals and find that elusive fulfillment we all strive for in our lives.
The three most important questions we can ask ourselves are:
1. What do you want to experience in life?
2. How do you want to grow and develop yourself?
3. How do you want to contribute to the world?
Answering these questions will give you an insight into who you really are and what you want in life.
Now, take some time to go through the following exercise to help you define your goals.

Action:
First, get a piece of paper (the act of physically writing rather than typing helps you to think more thoroughly about what you are writing!)
Then take no more than 90 seconds to answer each of the 3 questions above. The point is not to overthink it but let the answers flow through you. This is how you will hear the answers that instantly come to you, straight from your heart.
Keep on writing for the full 90 seconds and do not stop. At some point, your critical mind shuts off and you start writing what matters. And remember there are no right or wrong answers here.
Once you have done that then spend a further 2 minutes writing out absolutely everything you can think of that you want in life no matter how big or small and no matter whether you think it’s obtainable or not.
Do not expend any energy on how any of your goals can be accomplished just fantasise about what it is you really want. The only qualification is that you must really want it.
I recommend that you keep this list and review it monthly and tick off the ones you have acquired.

Now that you have looked at the experiences you want, how you want to serve and contribute and what you want to acquire in life, you can start formulating your C-type goal.
Choose one or two of the goals choosing those that are the most important to you as you will start to work towards those.
Your goals should be formulated in the present tense and described in as much detail as possible so that it really comes alive and leaves no room for ambiguity.
Goal Card
The next step is to encapsulate your goal in one concise sentence so that it fits on your goal card. Ideally, you should be writing a new goal card out every day and carrying it around with you in your pocket so that you touch it and pull it out and read it several times a day so it becomes embedded in your subconscious. It is especially powerful if you read it out aloud just before you go to sleep at night.
Action Steps
Write out six action steps you can take to start moving towards each of your personal and professional goals and then number them in order of priority and start taking action to complete step one.
It doesn’t matter if you have no idea how to achieve your goal. Just keep it in mind by constantly referring to your goal card, and start taking small steps towards it.
